Spanish giants Atletico Madrid qualified for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after beating English side Manchester United 0-1 (1-2 on aggregate) in the second leg of their round of 16 final on Tuesday evening.
Brazilian left-back Renan Lodi scored the game’s only goal at Old Trafford in the 41st minute to send Atletico through to the quarter-finals.
United’s closest chance to equalize was on 45+2 minutes, when Bruno Fernandes fired a blistering shot from outside the box but was denied by Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
Ralf Rangnick’s side continued to press for an equalizer by making some changes with Pogba, Matic and Rashford in place of Elanga, Mctominay and Bruno Fernandes respectively, but were unlucky.
The Red Devils struggled throughout the game and were expelled from the competition in front of the home crowd after drawing 1-1 with Atletico in the first leg.
