Madrid, March 7, 2022.
Banco Santander, through Santander Universidades, has invested 106 million euros in support of more than 162,000 students, professionals, startups and SMEs in 2021.
To reinforce its commitment to lifelong learning, excellence and equal opportunity, it awarded 388,000 scholarships from 2019 to 2021, up 94% from its commitment to help 200,000 people with scholarships, internships and entrepreneurship programs.
Last year alone, more than 40,600 people benefited from scholarships, research and academic mobility; more than 23,100 people from entrepreneurship programs as part of the global Santander X initiative; and nearly 98,500 from internships and upskilling and retraining programs to boost employability.
Upskilling and reskilling have been a strong underpinning of the programs in a year when the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing socio-economic crisis have shaped a new employment landscape. Santander has made a huge effort to improve its scholarship offer with programs open to all ages and profiles. They promote digital and other skills in high demand, as well as access to universities, academic excellence and equal opportunities.
