Madrid, July 9, 2021.
Santander Consumer Finance, the Universia Foundation and the European Investment Fund (EIF) have signed an agreement to promote investment in education in Spain and the Benelux, in particular in vocational training for the new labor market. Under the agreement, the EIF will pledge nearly € 50 million to fund skills and career development to improve employability.

Santander Consumer Finance, a strong advocate for education, will sign agreements with universities and business schools in Spain and the Benelux region to offer their students advantageous financing conditions. It joins Grupo Santander in its commitment to requalification and improvement for the ever-changing job market.

Banco Santander has been firmly committed to education for 25 years. This year it has expanded its scholarship programs with initiatives for students and professionals of all ages. Its new strategy aims to promote equal opportunities, jobs and prosperity for all in an ever-changing world where digitization and globalization are on the rise and where lifelong learning will be essential for better job prospects.

Recent scholarships include Santander Tech | Digital requalification – Ironhack; Santander Technology | Emerging Technologies Program – MIT Professional Education; and skills of Santander | Professional development – ESADE.

The EIF channels funds through its Skills and education guarantee pilot (M&E pilot). This program, which aims to stimulate investment in education and training, opens up access to funding that helps to bridge the skills and education gap in Europe caused by the social and technological transformation of the economy. This is possible thanks to the support of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), which aims to finance and implement productive investments and to expand access to finance in the European Union.
