Madrid will lift all Covid capacity restrictions on dining and entertainment venues from Monday, October 4.

The new measure will apply to bars, restaurants, nightclubs, cinemas, theaters, multipurpose spaces and sports centers. Madrid’s Prime Minister Isabel Díaz Ayuso, of the Conservative Popular Party (PP), made the announcement on Wednesday September 29 during an interview with the Spanish television channel Telecinco.

“As of Monday, we’re going to get rid of all capacity restrictions and we’re pretty much one step away from what it was before the pandemic,” she said from Washington, where she is on a promotional visit.

As of September 20, there are no restrictions on the opening hours of these places, however, the capacity has been limited to 75%. As for bars and restaurants, there was a limit of six people at the tables inside and a limit of 10 people in the outside spaces.

These measures will remain in place until Monday, October 4. After that, dining and entertainment venues will be able to open at full capacity, and there will be no restriction on the number of people allowed at a table. Service at the bar counter will also be permitted while customers are seated.

Regarding the use of face masks, Ayuso announced that the coating will no longer be required in outdoor areas of restaurants if a safe distance can be maintained.
