MADRID police investigate after man stabbed with kitchen knife on train in Cercancias

Madrid police are investigating after arresting a 19-year-old man today Sunday (October 3rd). He was arrested for stabbing another person while traveling on the Cercanias C-2 train line through the city, bound for Segovia.

As reported by the Prefecture of Superior Police of Madrid, in Europe Press, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. While the train was between Atocha and Recoletos stations, the young man allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old passenger with a kitchen knife.

Passengers who witnessed the attack alerted the train driver, who brought his train back to Atocha main station. The assailant, a Spanish national, managed to escape from the train but was eventually captured by national police officers in rue Comercio, near the station.

The injured man, also of Spanish nationality, was taken care of by doctors from the Samur-Civil Protection service who were waiting for the arrival of the train to Atocha. There he was stabilized and intubated in the train car.

After being treated, he was transferred to Gregorio Marañon Hospital, where he was admitted with stab wounds in the abdomen, with evisceration. Sources from the hospital reportedly informed Europe Press that the prognosis for the man was dire.

Samur-Civil Protection doctors also treated the attacker, who had cuts on his hands. Subsequently, he was taken to the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, where his prognosis was not serious, according to 112 Emergencias Madrid.

A passenger had to be assisted by a psychologist from Samur after showing signs of anxiety after witnessing the knife attack.

The agents of the provincial information brigade of the national police force resumed the investigation to try to determine the circumstances which led to the incident. The first indications suggest that it could be a settling of accounts, but they do not yet rule out any hypothesis, as reported laopiniondemalaga.es.
