Queen Sofia of Spain celebrated World Alzheimer’s Day by attending the opening of the International Congress of Investigation and Innovation on Neurodegenerative Diseases.

The event was held at the Alzheimer Center of the Reina Sofía Foundation in Madrid on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Also present were the Spanish Secretary for Health, Silvia Calzón, the Secretary General for Research, Raquel Yotti, the Minister for Family, Youth and Social Policy of the Community of Madrid, Concepción Dancausa and the director of the Carlos III Health Institute, Cristóbal Belda.

All of them, including Queen Sofia, spoke at the event. All agreed on the importance of technological advances for research purposes, as well as the key role that education plays in training a new generation of doctors, scientists, developers and researchers.

The roundtable was organized by the Reina Sofía Foundation, the CIEN Foundation (a research center on neurological diseases), CIBERNED (an online research center on neurodegenerative diseases) and the Council for the family, youth and social policy of the Autonomous Community of Madrid.

This congress will focus on discussing advances in research and technological developments for the treatment and management of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and other neurological and neurodegenerative diseases.

This whole conference is also part of NEURO 2020/22, an entire year dedicated to researching the causes of neurodegenerative diseases, which are the only way to develop remedies that will ultimately reduce the number of people. affected by these diseases.
