The Indian government has announced that Indian Sign Language (ISL) will be taught as a subject in schools! Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that ISL will now be introduced into the country’s education system as a subject in schools in India, meaning that students can now choose to study it. He said it would promote ISL and help more than 3 lakhs of people with disabilities in the country, who currently depend on sign language for learning. This decision was received with an overwhelming response across the country.
Superstar Ranveer Singh has consistently urged authorities to consider and declare Indian Sign Language (ISL) as the 23rd official language of India. The superstar has always made his voice heard on social issues and he also recently signed a petition to raise awareness of this cause.
Ranveer’s independent label IncInk, which he formed with Navzar Eranee, also released sign language music videos – the only label to initiate this progressive step. Considering Ranveer’s efforts to make Indian Sign Language an official language, the deaf community in India wholeheartedly appreciated him and also posted a heartfelt thank you video for him.
